About ANZSBEG

ANZSBEG identify national recreational boating issues, address them through coordinated public education strategies and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge to reduce incidents and fatalities in the Australian recreational fleet.

Mission


Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group (ANZSBEG) objective is to collaborate in water safety education to help prevent recreational boating incidents, associated injuries and loss of life.


Membership


The group brings together those responsible for the implementation of government policy on boating safety, those with a responsibility for the implementation of national/ international safety standards, small craft search and rescue and those that have direct communication links with recreational boaters.

ANZSBEG representatives from governments across Australia and New Zealand, include:

  • Australian Maritime Safety Authority

  • Department of Transport, Energy and Infrastructure SA

  • Department of Transport WA

  • Marine and Safety Tasmania

  • Marine Safety Branch, Department of Lands and Planning NT

  • Maritime Safety Queensland

  • Centre for Maritime Safety, Transport for NSW

  • Maritime New Zealand

  • Maritime Safety Victoria

  • National Maritime Safety Authority Papua New Guinea

Plus non-government organisations including:

  • Australia Sailing

  • Boating Industry Australia

  • Bureau of Meteorology

  • Royal Life Saving Australia

  • Surf Life Saving Australia

  • National Volunteer Marine Search and Rescue Committee


Oversight and Structure


The goals of ANZSBEG are to: 

1. Share information, data and statistics on recreational boating; 

2. Facilitate and support best practice in recreational boating safety education; 

3. Develop and support consistent national safety messages founded on evidence-based analysis; and 

4. Promote a culture of safe, enjoyable and responsible boating. 

ANZSBEG

ANZSBEG is a sub-committee of the ARBSC and is subject to its direction and control, meeting a minimum of twice a year. The group provides issue papers to the ARBSC as required and submits an annual report summarising its work.  The group may meet out of session and resolve matters through the distribution of papers through the Chair.  


Chair, administration and secretariat functions is reviewed every two years with consideration given to rotation by agreement amongst the regulatory jurisdictions. The jurisdiction responsible for chairing the Group is entitled to nominate another person to sit as a member.
